Racing is all
over. First over the line was Greg Wilcox followed by Nick Craig, Thomas Hansson-Mild

tight.

Final day of
racing and the regatta is still wide open. Karl Purdie has a slight jump but
given the high point scoring nature of this event anything could happen. There
is low cloud/fog and light breezes in place. All is set for and intriguing
final day.
Wednesday 10 2 2010:
1645
Although we are
yet to enter the final results into the system it would appear that
(provisionally at least) Karl Purdie has done enough today to move up into first
place overall followed by fellow Wellingtonian Paul Rhodes then Australian
sailor Michael Williams and Junior sailor Matthew Steven, also from Wellington.
It is still very close so it looks like it will go right down to the wire
tomorrow.
Wednesday 10 2 2010:

being reversed and we should be underway shortly.

over the show making this task very difficult. We will keep on trying!
Tuesday 9 2 2010:

Well it has all
gone a bit crazy out on the race track. A dark cloud has developed over the

1030
The sailors have
left the shore for the second day of racing in the 2010 OK Dinghy World
Championships. The breeze is currently coming from the north at around 15 knots.
The forecast is for the wind to change to a southerly around midday and then
build during the late afternoon. With any luck the scheduled two race should be
completed before we have any issues with the breeze.
Saturday 6 2 2010:
1700
Paul Rhodes has
provisionally won race 2 from Michael Williams of Australia. Young Wellington
sailor Matthew Steven looks to have taken out third place followed by Karl

finished race 8 ... but who has won? Keep watching!!!
Wednesday 3 2 2010:

underway with 28 boats still sailing. The breeze is around 20 knots. It would
appear some of the fleet have headed home to save their legs for later in the

place holder Paul Rhodes in second place. Nick Craig is in fifth place which
makes the battle for second overall very close.

Wellingtonian and NZ OK Dinghy Association President Paul Rhodes was first, with
Soenke Behrens (GER) second, Nick Craig (GBR) third, Christian Hedlund (DEN)
fourth and local man Steve McDowell (NZL) fifth. The course is now being
adjusted for Race 5 to take place shortly.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1615
It was cat and
mouse at rounding of the last mark - Soenke Behrens (GER) led Thomas Hansson-Mild
(SWE) with Paul Rhodes (NZL) moving up the fleet followed by Christian Hedlund
(DEN) and Nick Craig (GBR).
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1540
It's all change
out on the water, with a real battle underway in Race 4. First round Mark
1 was World Champ, Thomas Hansson-Mild. At Mark 3 it had been Soenke
Behrens (GER) followed by Thomas Hansson-Mild (SWE), Christian Hedlund (DEN),
Paul Rhodes (NZL) and Nick Craig (GBR). Things are hotting up ...
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1520
The fleet split to
both sides of the course, left looked favoured to begin with but the right hand
boats ended up in the lead at the top mark. First roundings were
Soenke Behrens (GER), Thomas Hansson-Mild (SWE), Christian Hedlund (DEN), Brad
Douglas (NZL) followed by Paul Rhodes (NZL).
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1455
Race four is
underway ... only one hooter ... so hopefully a clear start.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1420
The race committee
has decided to move the course as the new course is getting too close to the
shipping channel. All mark boats have sprung to action to relay the
course.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1415
There has been a
first attempt at a start for race four which has resulted in a general recall.
Lets have another go!
Tuesday 2 2 2010:

Sorry we missed
the second top mark rounding due to technical difficulties. The race has now
finished with Paul Rhodes 1st, Matt Steven 2nd, Steve McDowell 3rd, Thomas
Hansson-Mild 4th and Nick Craig in 5th. Rolling into a start for race four with
a nice steady breeze.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1310
At the top mark
for the first time the fleet is quite closely bunched and sailing in a glorious
nine knots of steady breeze. Paul Rhodes has rounded in first place followed by David Hoogenboom.
Steve McDowell follows ahead of Terry Curtis from Great Britain and
Thomas Hanson-Mild.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1255

to sailors that a warning signal will come in around five minutes. The breeze at
Point Jerningham has settled at around 8-10 knots from 180 degrees or due south.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1210
The southerly sea
breeze has arrived and the race committee are springing into action to get
racing underway for the day.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1130
It is still a
waiting game out on the harbour. Once the land heats up a little more the sea breeze
is likely to come in but as yet it has not made its presence felt.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
1030
Hurry up and
wait!!! With out much breeze on the harbour the race committee and the fleet is
playing a waiting game. The signal boat is flying the AP flag to signal a
postponement to racing.
Tuesday 2 2 2010:
0920
The race officer
has asked that code flag D be flown ashore. This means he is happy for sailors
to go afloat. The start boat is on the harbour looking for breeze. The aim is to
run the full schedule of three races today and maybe even catch up with the race
that was missed yesterday. This of course depends on how well the wind fills in.
Race 1 is due to start at 10.30.

Tuesday 2 2 2010:
0810
Day two of the OK
Dingy Nationals and Interdominions has dawned without a cloud in the sky above Wellington
and no wind to speak of. The Met Service has issued the following forecast.
Forecast:
Today: Variable 5 knots, becoming southerly 15 knots this morning, then easing
to 10 knots this evening. Smooth sea, becoming slight this morning. Mainly fine.
Low cloud possible about the south coast this evening.
The chefs are busy in the kitchen putting together the lunches, the race office is handing out the chase boat kits, and competitors are gathering around the notice board. Looks like it will be a great day.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1710
Karl Purdie has
capped off a good day of sailing with another victory. Paul Rhodes has also had
a consistent day picking up his second 2nd placing. Steve McDowell sailed a
solid race to finish in third place and was followed home by Adrian Mannering in
fourth and Russell Pagewood in fifth (results are as we saw it and not official
at this point). The finish boat is flying AP over A which means the sailors are
returning home after this race and that there will be no more racing
today.

Boats returning home at the end day one
Monday 1 2 2010:
1650
Karl Purdie has
come through to lead at the top mark the second time followed by Paul Rhodes.
Russell Pagewood has moved into third place with Steve McDowell moving up to
fourth. Adrian Mannering from Napier Sailing Club fills out the fifth spot at
this stage.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1620
The news from the
top mark the first time in race two is that David Hoogenboom from Waiuku Yacht
Club rounded in first place followed by Daniel Bush of Wakatere Sailing Club,
then Karl Purdie and Russell Pagewood from Wakatere. Local sailor Steve McDowell
from Worser Bay rounded out the top five at the first mark the first time
around. The wind is still steady from the South at around 15 knots with the sun
starting to break through the clouds.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1555
The race committee
is now getting on with race two. They have had one attempt at a start which
resulted in a general recall. The black flag is flying for the second attempt at
a start.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1530
Race one of the
nationals is all over with the local sailors taking out the top three places. On
the water Karl Purdie has won race one followed by Paul Rhodes and Matthew
Steven. Nick Craig from Great Britain would appear to have taken fourth place while
Thomas Hansen Mild from Sweden has come home in fifth. These results are of
course unofficial. There were some boats that were 'on course side' at the start
of the race but we won't know who until the results come through. We will post
the official provisional results as they come to hand from the water.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1450
At the first mark
the second time Karl Purdie has come through to the lead followed by Paul
Rhodes, Thomas Hansen Mild, Nick Craig and Matthew Steven.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1425
At the first mark
of the first race the local sailors have signaled their intentions for this
regatta. Worser Bay Boating Club sailor Paul Rhodes lead club mate Matt Steven
in second place, with Karl Purdie in fifth. Breeze 15 -18 knots with the OKs
flying down the first reach
Monday 1 2 2010:
1410
Clear start ...
the fleet is well spread heading to both sides of the track. Local sailors Matt
Steven and Karl Purdie are looking handy early on.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1350
The race committee
has set up course between Somes- Matiu Island and Ward-Makaro Island. The breeze
has settled into a steady 15 to 20 knots from the South. The sailors have had
two attempts at a start which have resulted in two general recalls. Every one is
very eager! The next start is under a black flag.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1250
All boats that are
going to sail today have left the wharf ... a total of 49 OKs are on their way
to the race area.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1210
Code flag D is
going back up signaling that competitors can go afloat. The race officer has
said that the wind has abated enough to get racing underway and that he is ready
to go. Rescue boats are gathering to escort the fleet to the race track. Once
they are in place flag D will go up and the regatta will be all on.
Monday 1 2 2010:
1125
Code flag D was
flown for a brief period signaling that competitors could go afloat. No boats
launched which in some ways was fortunate because a decision has now been made
to fly the postpone flag once again. The breeze is still too strong on the race
track so the waiting game continues.

Monday 1 2 2010:
1025
The race officer has
raised the AP flag over numeral pennant two. This means the warning signal for
racing will be two hours later than originally scheduled and now will be made at
12.25 hours. The wind is still gusting up around 30 knots at point Jerningham at
times but the rain and wind are both slowly abating.
Monday 1 2 2010: 0800
The race officer made an early call this
morning to postpone sailing as the wind is up. The decision is set
to be reviewed at 10.00 hours.
Monday 1 2 2010: 0600
Race day one for the OK dinghy nationals
has dawned with quite low visibility and a strong south easterly breeze in
place. A system to the East of New Zealand has been generating quite a lot of
rain and wind over the weekend with rivers flowing well above their normal
levels in Hawke Bay. The good news is that the system is predicted to pass over
New Zealand today.
